APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION TO RECEPTION IN SEPTEMBER 2026
Children who were born between 1 September 2021 and 31 August 2022 are eligible to begin reception class primary school in September 2026. Applications open on Monday 1 September 2025 and close at 11:59pm on Thursday 15 January 2026.
You must apply through the local authority which is responsible for administering the council tax for your home, even if you intend to name a school located in another area.
If you are applying for children of a multiple birth, a separate application is required for each child.
You do not need to complete an application if your child has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Instead contact your assessment coordinator to discuss your child’s school placement.
All information about applying for a school can be found on the Achieving for Children website.

We advise you to accept the school place offered to ensure your child has a school place in September, as you can always refuse this at a later date if you are offered a school you prefer. This will not affect your child’s position on any waiting lists of your higher preference schools or your right to appeal.
Please note that your child will not be given any additional priority on the waiting lists if they remain unplaced when the academic year begins in September. You will continue to be responsible for providing a suitable education for your child until a place is offered.
You should be aware that your child’s position on the waiting list is subject to change; the list must be maintained in accordance with the school’s oversubscription criteria and re-ranked every time a new application is added.
Late Applications
Applications received after the closing date will only be considered after all applications received by the closing date.
Determined Admission Arrangements for 2025/2026 and 2026/2027
1. Places will be offered firstly to looked after children or previously looked after children (including children adopted from state care outside of England). Applications made under this criterion must be accompanied by details of circumstance and professionally supported evidence (such as from a social worker).
2. Places will be offered next to children who have a brother or sister (sibling), including an adopted, foster, half or step brother or sister, living at the same address and attending Reception to Year 6 at Alexandra at the time of admission.
3. Places will then be offered in cases of exceptional family, social or medical need (which must be described on the application and verified by professionally supported evidence) that makes Alexandra the most suitable one for the individual child. Information about applying under this criterion is available in the ‘Admission to Kingston’s Primary Schools’ brochure.
4. Places will then be offered to children of members of staff who have been employed at Alexandra for two or more years at the time of application and will continue to be employed at the school at the point of admission or the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage as determined by the governing body.
5. The remaining places will be offered to children who live nearest to Alexandra, as measured by a straight line in metres to the nearest school gate. All distances will be measured using the School Admissions’ geographical information system (GIS).
