Underpinning everything that we do at Alexandra Primary school is the idea of establishing a love of lifelong learning, rooted in knowledge and enriched by experience.
At Alexandra Primary school our teachers take pride in the knowledge rich curriculum that they have created. All children at our school experience a broad and balanced curriculum, fulfilling the aims of the National Curriculum, with carefully planned enrichment opportunities that enhance learning. We have the highest expectations for all learners and our curriculum enables them to achieve excellence.
Our curriculum planning ensures that children can build on their prior knowledge and make connections in their learning, so that they know more and remember more. Subject areas are taught as disciplines: children will know the skills that they need to be a scientist, historian, geographer, artist, musician, Spanish speaker and sportsperson. We benefit from having specialist teaching staff for Spanish, Music and PE. Our teaching and learning sequences are planned and delivered to ensure that learning is memorable and key knowledge, vocabulary and skills are remembered and applied to new learning. The use of knowledge organisers supports children’s learning.
Reading and vocabulary acquisition are at the heart of our curriculum. Children are supported to develop a love of reading. Opportunities to develop the core skills of reading, writing and maths are built on across all subjects, to ensure that children are ready to progress onto the next stage of their education.
Our teaching and learning encourages children to nurture their innate curiosity about the world around them, to develop a sense of awe and wonder and promotes the experiences of exploring, investigating and questioning. We optimise the use of our unique locality and diverse community.
We plan our teaching around themes that inspire the children and are an irresistible invitation to learn.
We follow the following curriculums:
