Newsletter 8th September 2023

Message from the Headteacher

Dear Families,

I hope you were able to embrace a restful and relaxing summer break and your children have enjoyed the return to school this week. It has been wonderful welcoming all year groups in Key Stage 1 and 2 and I have been so proud of the way that our pupils have shown the school values even in the first few days of the new academic year. I would particularly like to welcome our new children starting in Reception and Nursery. It can often be daunting joining a new school environment but it is evident from both the stay and play sessions and soft start activities that our youngest pupils are embracing the opportunities presented to them. We look forward to welcoming all pupils over the next few weeks.

I am also keen to take the opportunity to welcome new members of staff who have joined the school this year. We are delighted to have the services of Miss Lewis (Hoglets), Mrs Cook (Swans), Miss Tattersall (Bats) and Ms Street (Sparrowhawks) as classroom teachers and Ms Sin and Ms Penugonda joining our SMSA and support staff team. We also have Ms Corner-Munroe working as our new school business manager. We are fortunate to have such a strong staff team who are committed to providing the best possible experiences for the children.

From the 18th September we welcome families to join us in person or online for the Parent Forums. This is an excellent opportunity to meet your child's class teacher and find out about the topics and core learning which will be undertaken this term. Class teachers will also share key dates and go through the weekly timetable, so that parents have clarity over what the children will be covering each week. Following the presentations we will upload all slides to the website for families to access. The dates of the various Parent Forums can be viewed below.

Finally, I wanted to congratulate Holly Loveless, one of our learning support assistants, who welcomed a baby girl, Isla, on the 2nd September 2023.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Communications with School

Please use the following methods to communicate with school:

Absence/illness: via Parentmail or telephone call

Please email all of your queries to admin@alexandra.school.

IMPORTANT: Absence due to illness

This is a reminder that if your child has sickness (vomiting) or diarrhoea, you must keep them at home for 48 hours after their last episode. This is to minimise any transmission of sickness to other children.

For example, if your child is sick on Monday evening, they must not come back to school until Thursday.

PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE INFORMED THE SCHOOL OFFICE OF ANY MEDICATIONS YOUR CHILD TAKES, EVEN IF THEY DO NOT REQUIRE THIS MEDICINE IN SCHOOL.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT PARENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSURING THEIR CHILD’S MEDICATION IS IN DATE AND RENEWED WHEN EXPIRED.

Wishlists

Each class has an Amazon wishlist of additional resources/books that would enhance the children's learning. If you would like to buy something for your class, please see the links to the lists below. It is important to emphasise that this is entirely an optional donation and parents should not feel obliged to provide anything.

Items can be purchased directly (please put your name and the class name in the message box so the teacher knows who to thank) or, if you would like to provide any of the items from alternative sources, please do email alexandrasch@axi.rbksch.org and we will remove from the list.

Safeguarding concern?
If you have a concern about the welfare of a child please speak to a member of the designated safeguarding team at Alexandra Primary School (Robert Waiting, Polly Jones, Rose Peacock and Melanie Meek). If you think a child is in immediate danger you should call 999. You can also email our new email address safeguarding@axi.rbksch.org which goes directly to the safeguarding team.
School calendar
All school events are now found on our school calendar.  You can also subscribe to this calendar to your phone (via Outlook, Google or iPhone) to be kept up to date of all events.

Printer cartridge recycling

As part of our pledge to become more environmentally friendly, we have registered as a cartridge recycling collection point. There is a box in the entrance that you can put your empty printer cartridges in.  And even better, we will also be raising money for the PSA for every eligible printer cartridge recycled!

Hi! I'm Taranjit Patel and I'm excited to announce that I am launching Ohana Childcare, a new childminding business in the South West London area.

I have over 8 years of experience teaching at a primary school to children ranging from 2-8 years old. It truly is a passion of mine to teach and care for children and I hope to be able to bring all my enthusiasm to this new venture!

We are located at 51 Kingston Hill, Kingston upon Thames, KT2 7PS - where a new, purpose-built childcare environment has been built.

In the meantime, feel free to check out our website over ohanachildcare.com
