Autumn Term Knowledge Organisers

Spring Term Knowledge Organisers

Summer Term Knowledge Organisers

Year: 1

Week beginning: 12th January

English

  • Using the Solar System as our topic we will be exploring the features of a non fiction fact booklet and will be thinking about the planet Mars. Children will learn how to use the ‘est’ suffix.
  • Every English lesson will include handwriting practise and writing a dictated sentence with a focus on use of capital letters, finger spaces, full stops, using phonics to spell and letter formation.

Phonics/Reading: We will continue to learn phase 5 sounds:  y /igh/ fly, ow /oa/ snow, g /j/ giant, ph /f/phone and these new tricky words: who, whole, where, two.

Maths

  • We will start to continue to explore numbers up to 20 on the number line, exploring their composition i.e. how they are made of tens and ones and thinking about the numbers 14-19. We will think about one more and one less. We will also be making them using different manipulatives.

PSHE

  • This term our topic will be Dreams and Goals.

Homework

  • Spelling: homework will help consolidate the new phase 5 sounds and tricky words we have been learning in school this week.
  • Maths - will consolidate our understanding of numbers within 20.

Science

  • We will recap our knowledge of oak trees and fir trees before learning how to identify a silver birch tree. We will be using our observational skills to draw a silver birch tree.
  • We will continue to embed the vocabulary: deciduous (trees that lose their leaves in Autumn) and evergreen (trees that do not lose their leaves).

Reminders

  • Reading books must be returned to school on Monday.
  • Please can children wear their PE kits on PE days.

PE Days

For the remainder of the year PE will take place on these days for both classes:

  • Both classes: outdoor PE will be on a Tuesday
  • Ladybirds: indoor PE will be on a Tuesday
  • Caterpillars: indoor PE will be on a Monday.

Please send your child in wearing a PE kit on these days.

Sharing time

In Year 1 our Sharing Time focuses on our love of books and achievements. This replaces Show and Tell. If your child has a book at home that they would like to share with the class at the end of the day, please do send it in with their name written inside.

Similarly, if your child has an achievement, such as learning to ride a bike or receiving a certificate, badge or medal from a club outside of school we would love to celebrate this with this whole class.
