Together we nurture the genius in everyone

What a succession of exciting events this week!
What a succession of exciting events this week! On Tuesday after school, Will Ryan came to work with the staff to help us articulate what we believe about teaching and learning in our school. We spent an enjoyable two hours sharing thoughts and ideas, and confirming that we all share the same beliefs about what makes outstanding teaching and learning.
Will stayed for the evening, and we had a packed house for his parents’ workshop. Feedback has been very positive, and I think parents enjoyed the opportunity to think about educational practice and the impact it has on children.
On Thursday, Nursery parents were invited in to school to hear about what is going on. Mrs Ferdman did a great job taking them through the routines of our Nursery, and explaining the different ways that children learn though play.
Today, all 3 reception classes opened their doors to the parents and invited them to participate in a phonics lesson. They got the chance to join in with their children’s activities both inside and outside. Again, there was a great turn out – thanks for making the time to come along.
The children in reception, Year 1 and Year 2 also enjoyed a visit from our local community police officer, Linda Taylor. She spent time in each of the classrooms, talking about rules in school and at home, and the laws which keep us all safe and happy in the wider community. The children had lots of questions and ideas to contribute, as always.
In Year 2, we have been learning how to write instructions. Quite a few children shared theirs with me – so I now know exactly how to trap a dragon, which is very useful when you think how many dragons there seem to be around at the moment! The reception children have pretended to be the 3 little pigs, building houses form straw, twigs and bricks. They experimented with a hair drier to see which one would be trickiest for that Big Bad Wolf to blow down. In Year 1, lots of fun has been had labelling body parts to help a very forgetful Doctor who has heard what knowledgeable children we have.
Hope you enjoy the lovely weather this weekend!
