Establishing lifelong learning: rooted in knowledge, enriched by experience
‘Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity’. (The National Curriculum)
At Alexandra Primary School, we foster a lifelong love of music and a growth of cultural capital by providing children with a wealth of musical experiences. We believe that participating in musical activities enables children to develop creatively, which in turn and has a positive impact on their curiosity, self-confidence and resilience.
Our music teaching follows the National curriculum, and we provide teaching and learning that ensures the progressive development of musical concepts, knowledge and skills. Music at Alexandra offers an exposure to many different styles of music and encourages children to find their voices as singers, performers and composers. We also offer many opportunities to play, compose and improvise on a variety of musical instruments.
We recognise that music plays an important role in helping children to feel part of our school community as well as a wider musical community. Children create, play and perform in class as well as to a wider audience. We extend a warm welcome to families to the concerts and productions that take place throughout the school year.
We aim to nurture a lifelong passion for music and we firmly believe that every one of our children should have every opportunity to develop their musical enjoyment and potential.
