RE
At Alexandra we place value on the importance of learning about and from contemporary religions and beliefs and believe that this plays an essential role in preparing our children for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.
As a school we follow the Discovery RE scheme for our RE lessons which is aligned with the Kingston Agreed Syllabus. This scheme follows a progressive approach allowing the children to build on their learning about a range of religions throughout their time at Alexandra. The Discovery RE scheme adopts an enquiry-based approach to teaching and learning. This encourages the children to apply their subject knowledge to a question and at the end of a topic to reflect on how the enquiry might have influenced their own starting points and beliefs.
In addition, each year group will take part in a visit to a place of worship including visits to St. Paul's C of E Kingston Hill, Kingston Mosque, Kingston & Surbiton District Synagogue and Christmas and Easter events at Cornerstone Church in Kingston and will also learn about many of the calendar's religious festivals in our school assemblies.
