Reception
Reception Curriculum
In reception our planning is informed by Development Matters.
We have created exciting termly topics offer all children an irresistible invitation to learning! Planning is sequential and rooted in knowledge, enabling all pupils to succeed. The curriculum is enriched through experiences from visitors and trips out of school.
Phonics
We follow the Little Wandle Revised Letters and Sounds Phonics programme. This is a comprehensive programme which includes daily phonics lessons and opportunities to apply this knowledge through reading and writing.
Children are taught the sounds made by individual, pairs and clusters of letters. They read decodable books which are matched to their phonic knowledge. Children take part in three reading sessions a week focusing on decoding, prosody and comprehension. Parents are also encouraged to read decodable texts with their children over the weekend and are invited to regular phonics workshops.
Enriched by experience
We value the love of reading and develop children's skills needed to become fluent and lifelong readers. As well as decodable reading books, children take home a Love of Reading book from our library every week. Pupils choose from a range of high quality, rich and varied texts and take these home to enjoy with their families. Love of reading time is scheduled twice daily in Reception, which provides pupils with an opportunity to listen to and read high quality texts and learn and enjoy a variety of rhymes and songs.
