Establishing lifelong learning: rooted in knowledge, enriched by experience
Dear Parents and carers,
Following my communication yesterday, I felt it was important to provide further detail regarding some of the preparations we are making as a school in response to the Covid-19 outbreak.
As you will have seen from the national updates, the government are now recommending that if a family member has the symptoms of coronavirus then all of that household should stay at home for 14 days (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection). They have also recommended that those who are in the at risk categories should follow the social distancing measures put in place at the start of this week (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-guidance-on-social-distancing-and-for-vulnerable-people).
For our school community, this has resulted in pupil absence in all year groups and staff absence at both class teacher and support staff level. Currently, we have sufficient staffing levels in place to remain open and we will continue to do so unless otherwise advised at a national or local authority level.
However, if schools are instructed to close, we are putting in place measures to ensure that learning resources and materials are accessible at home. Each week we will send out via Parent Mail, a ‘Learning Project’ for year groups. These will be tasks to complete on paper covering different curriculum areas (e.g. reading, writing, maths and topic learning). The work will not need to be submitted but we would value hearing about children’s progress with emails or photographs of the children’s work to the school office at email@example.com
We are also keen to prioritise support for key workers (health professionals, care staff, cleaning staff, supermarket and delivery employees, etc) within our school community. If you work within this category and will be affected by the potential of the school closing, please let us know. It is important that the school continues to provide support wherever possible.
When I receive any additional updates to this I will be in touch again. Your help and encouragement is really appreciated at this time,
