Dear Parents & Carers,
If you have a child in Alexandra School you are automatically a member of the Alexandra PSA and you are welcome to come along to any of our meetings, which take place in the school and will be publicised through class reps and @ALEX newsletter.
The PSA Objective: To support the school by enhancing the school community for parents, carers and children and raising funds to support the school’s activities.
Over the last 2 years we have raised over £20k per academic year. Obviously, this year has been a little different. Before life changed in March 2020, we were on target to raise over £25k for the academic year. All of these funds go towards funding activities and materials to complement what the school offers. This year we have spent it on enhancements to the playground, library and books.
It’s not all about the money, it’s also about having fun and creating a sense of school community, so most of our activities are planned with this in mind. This year the children have loved doing their sponsored bounce, movie nights and fairs, whilst the parents and teachers had fun competing at our annual quiz and comedy nights.
Taking part in the events and getting involved in the PSA is also a great way to meet other Alexandra parents and carers. We would love as many people as possible to get involved and depend on parents and carers to make sure we can run great events and raise as much money as possible to help the school offer our children such a great experience.
There are lots of different ways you can get involved and you can offer as much or as little time as you have, for example for planning or running events, helping drum up support or sponsorship and also as a PSA class representative (or two/three) for each class. Most of it can be via Whatsapp, so you don’t need to be there at drop off/pick up every day to get involved.
Two great ways to help the school PSA is to sign up for ‘Amazon Smile’ and ‘matched funding’.
1. For Amazon Smile simply follow this link: www.smile.amazon.co.uk
This allows you to select the charity you want to donate to when buying from Amazon through AmazonSmile. Alexandra School PSA can be selected and Amazon will make a small cash donation for every purchase you make. You can also add AmazonSmile to your Amazon app by going to settings, tap on AmazonSmile and following the on-screen instructions.
2. ‘Matched funding’. If you work for a large company, you can ask whether they offer this. Many larger firms give up to £500 per year, per employee, to an organisation of their choice. For example, if we raised £2000 for the Christmas Fair, you can then ask your company to ‘match’ this (usually up to £500). It’s a simple form to fill in and the money makes all the difference.
Please let us know if you want to get involved or want more information and watch out for news of the first PSA meeting in the new school year.
We hope to meet you soon and as soon as we can get a date in the diary for a PSA meeting we will let you all know.
