Stationery in School
Although your child’s class teacher can provide stationery items such as handwriting pens, pencils, rulers etc., most children in Key Stage 2 bring in their own stationary for use in the classroom. We recommend this where possible because it encourages children to develop greater responsibility for their belongings as they grow. However, because of the wide range of items that can be brought into school and because of a lack of space for storage of items, this list of items has been devised to guide you on what is appropriate for your child to have in the classroom:
- Small pencil case (please avoid oversized large ‘Smiggle’ style cases
- 2 pencils
- 2 blue handwriting pens (for use only when pen license has been awarded- Year 4 and up)
These are available at school but if you wish to equip your child with these then choose a blue fibre tip. Also the pilot ‘FriXion’ pen is a good, although expensive, option as it is erasable and equipped with its own eraser.
- Glue Stick
- Plain ruler (cm and mm)
- Children may bring in a set of colouring pencils
- No gel pens please
- No felt tips please
To re-iterate, these items are available in school and you are not obliged to supply your child with these, but please observe these recommendations if preparing your child with items for school. This will ensure better classroom organisation and better presentation too.
After October half term, your child will be playing Hockey during their Outdoor P.E sessions. Although Hockey is not new to the curriculum at Alexandra, the way the children engage with it will be. We will be using wooden hockey sticks and heavier training balls for the first time in order to develop children’s skills, as well as increase the level of enjoyment of the sport.
As is common practice in all schools, your child will require a mouth guard and shin pads for the lessons. I have included some example links to both mouth guards and shin pads if your child does not already own these.
Unfortunately, without them, your child will be unable to participate.
